This is the final product of out prototype.

From the front view, it can be seen that there are 2 lamps in front of the room, 2 lamps at the back of the room, a fan at the center, and a projector in front of the room.
All of the electronics components are connected on the breadboard.

Today, we successfully tested the design of our IIUM Smart Room circuit. This include PIR sensor, parallel circuit of the lights, and circuit to off the front light when the projector is on. After this, we will implement it with the mechanical design.

To detect moving human body in specific area.
Combined with fresnel lens

IIUM Smart Room will be using this sensor to detect the presence of moving human body. Though our design are using multiple PIR sensors but for the sake of prototype, we will only use one sensor to demonstrate the outcome of the project.

Result:

In the nutshell, the prototype that we designed fulfilled the objective of the project which is to design a robotic hand to hold a cup. Both of the mechanical and electronics knowledge is applied during the whole project. Discussion within the team is important so that the project follows the goal and minimizes the conflict when the prototype has started to be developed. Good teamwork can minimize the time to complete the project. It is recommended that in the future, this subject, Mechatronics System Design should have project for the students. The project can be variety so that student can do the project based on its objective.

Modified Pugh's Method

To identify the best design that we should proceed with, we evaluated the 3 designs by using Modified Pugh's Method.

From the chosen essential criteria, the result shows that Design 1 Multiple Motion Sensor gains the highest positive value, 55 which make this design to be our final design. Thus, we will proceed with this design for our prototype.

System Design
From now on, we are going to discuss all the design stages that we have being through from the idea of automation of the IIUM Smart Room system to the last refined design, and determination of components needed, so as to deliver as much knowledge and understanding of the system as possible.

Conceptual Design
The automation of the system will be mainly to control the lights and fans inside the room according to the availability of human inside that particular room. In order to achieve that, we need to determine whether the sensor can synchronize with the electrical facilities place in the room. Not only that, we would also want to determine if we can link the circuit with the projector only for front lamp thus if the projector is on the front lamp will automatically off. Then after all the people left the room (the sensor will count the number of people living the room equal the number of people enter the room) hence the electrical facility will turn off. All the sensor will be set up by count up and count down.

Base on Ohm law theory (V=IR), current will be the same for series circuitry and for parallel circuitry the voltage will all be the same. For our design we will concentrate more on parallel circuitry.

In IIUM, most of the classroom does not being used efficiently. Some of the classroom that is not being occupied will be left with the light is on, so do the air-conditioner. All of this can be switched off manually but most of the time, students were rushing out from the classroom to catch for their next classes. This leads to waste of electricity. Waste of electricity can increase the cost of the university to spend more money on things that is not being used.

Our target is to create a smart system which can control most of the electrical components in the room, to switch on and off these components automatically by using some sensors. We also like to add some features to the system such as dimmed/close the lights when the projector is on.
